Vertical is an experimental aerial photography portfolio. The series is a visualisation using intersected images that were mirrored on themselves to create an experience similar to the edge of the earth.
When I get the chance to fly, I often get a sense of vertigo when I look straight up or down. What I never really considered before is when Iām flying to turn my head 90 degrees to the side where I got almost the same feeling in a whole new sense.
What I found while I looked at the horizon was the effect and feeling that was so overwhelming. I was able to experience and embrace the landscape in a whole new way, a way where it made me feel like I could be travelling vertically, straight up a wall!
After reviewing the images that I had captured over a number of flights, I began to imagine and plan out how I could actually replicate this visual discovery.
After a number of attempts to develop the production during shooting and the post-production that was required, I finally built a formula that would not only share what I was looking to achieve but one that Iād be able to place my images into and have Adobe Photoshop do the steps automatically once I knew the recipe.
I typically don't use Photoshop to change an image this dramatically, however I was interested in learning more about the software package so I set and delivered this portfolio as apart of 2nd Year Final Portfolio.
I'm extremely pleased with the results of this series and look forward to attempting something more Photo Manipulation based in the future.
